Mr Wizard and RiverStone Band http://riverstoneband.com/cgi-bin/blog/index.cgi?mode=viewone&blog=1140106551 We would like to introduce to our fans a “Friend of the RiverStone Band”, Chip Todd. Known to the guys of RiverStone as “Mr. Wizard” but to the rest of the world as the “Father of the Peavey Guitar”. Chip and his wife Arlene have been faithful and loyal fans of RiverStone from almost the very start and are regulars at our performances. Chip Todd and Hartley Peavey started the Peavey guitar program many years ago. Several of Chip’s innovations and designs are still in use today by Peavey. Chip designed the instruments and manufacturing fixtures, conceived the process, hired and trained the employees, and gave seminars for dealers for many years. He and Hartley Peavey co-patented the neck manufacturing process around which the program was built and remain good friends today. Without a long-winded description of Chip’s many talents, let’s just say that if there was the equivalent of a “Rocket Scientist” degree for guitar design and manufacturing Chip would have it. He does hold degrees in Commercial Art and Mechanical Engineering. Chip’s resume speaks for itself: In addition to his experience with Peavey, Chip has held the position of Director of Research & Development for Fender Guitars, Roger Drums and Drumsticks, Rhodes Pianos, and Squire Strings. Also, he has served as Director of Technical Services for Fender Guitars and as a consultant for Schecter Guitars. Chip is “retired” now, which means not having to drive to work, and he currently lives in Cedar Park, Texas. However, he still stays very busy designing and building custom T-60 guitars and T-40 bass guitars (reasonably priced between $400 - $1400), not to mention firearm repairs and high performance race boat engine building. Chip’s shop would make Tim Allen (hell, even Al would be impressed) grunt louder than usual. His shop is fully-equipped as a machine shop, wood shop, and paint facility (with plating & powder coating) and a firearms repairs facility. What a guy!!! I told you he was Mr. Wizard. Be sure to check out Chip’s special design T-40 Bass Guitar (see picture). Chip believes that these basses are the next revolution in bass guitar because of their size (standard guitar scale) and the quality of the sound that they put out (you won’t know the difference between this bass and any other higher priced standard bass). He has already converted many other “pros” to his way of thinking. But we’ll let him tell you about that. We’re already believers. For more information on how to contact Chip for sales and services, you can go directly to his website at www.chiptodd.com. Of course, you can always find Chip at one of our shows....so come on out and we’ll hook you up…with our friend and very own “Mr. Wizard”. Riverstone Band http://riverstoneband.com/cgi-bin/blog/index.cgi?mode=viewone&blog=1143497685 When it comes to the old school sound of authentic rock n' roll, these guys play it the way it's supposed to be played…with heart! RiverStone Band is group of old school guys who played in bands way back when groups like Santana, Cream, Grand Funk, and many others of the early 60’s and 70’s were at the top of their game. The kind of rock n' roll that moved the soul and was heard from a black vinyl record…Music that was called medicine for the restless soul…but could rattle the brain with the intense guitar solos. The Austin based band was formed in 2001 the way most bands typically start, in a garage. The garage, located on Hard Rock Road, no...really!, is now politely referred to as the “Sandbox”. A place of refuge from the daily demands of their professional days jobs. The band has gone through a number of evolutions and transformations which include a variety of new singers, lead guitar players, and a keyboardist. These days the group has found the right collection of guys with a cohesive combination of talent, personalities, and collective musical interests. In the early days playing back yard parties, bowling alleys, and turkey shoots, Riverstone has paid its dues. Over time the expansion of fans and loyal dead-heads, the band finds itself in demand by local Austin club hotspots, rock venues, and showcase performances. These guys really do play for the right reason…the listener…. DEMO PREVIEW CLIP http://riverstoneband.com/cgi-bin/blog/index.cgi?mode=viewone&blog=1144267161 Riverstone Band Demo/Promotional!!! We always knew the lead guitarist gets the girl, and now Dave's got Rosie!! Dave came to the band a couple years ago as an avowed single guy, but Rosie's awesomeness eventually made him realize he'd just better not lose her. Dave and Rosie wed officially last Saturday, but will have a celebratory ceremony April 29 in Bastrop with family and the Band Family in attendance. We love Dave and Rosie and wish them many, many years of wedded bliss. Austin Area Jam Session http://riverstoneband.com/cgi-bin/blog/index.cgi?mode=viewone&blog=1145290383 AUSTIN AREA JAM SESSION, SUNDAY, April 23rd There will be a jam session at Chip Todd's shop on Sunday, April 23rd, starting at 2:00pm and lasting until whenever. It will be a BYOB affair, so bring what you want to drink and munch on, but most importantly, bring your instruments. There will be amplifiers for guitars, bass, a PA, and a set of drums set up, but feel free to bring your combo type amp, if you prefer. Space limitations will probably keep us from using heads and stacks of speakers. We might start out on the patio, but will move into the air-conditioned shop after dark to reduce the noise on the neighborhood. Our house is in Cedar Park, at 1670 Starwood Drive; a limestone ranchstyle house with an aqua and white boat in the carport and a large shop in the back (easily seen from the street). Starwood is halfway between Hwy 183 and Parmer Lane, on FM 1431. FM 1431 is the main east/west road through Cedar Park and easy to find. Coming North on 183, turn right at the big Albertson's, (FM1431), and go 1.3 miles and turn right onto Starwood Coming North on Parmer, turn left at FM1431, (large shopping center on the left, go 1.5 miles, just past the Holiday Inn, and turn left on Starwood. There'll be cars all over. If you want to come early to help set up amps and move toolboxes out of shop, come on! Hope to see you here. A petition submitted to the Secretary of the Navy by the vessel's construction work force asked that she be named for the CV-2 scuttled by the Navy after sustaining serious damage in the Battle of the Coral Sea in May, 1942. Lexington served as the flagship of Fast Carrier Task Force 58 under the command of Admiral Marc Mitscher. Mitscher is credited with making the aircraft carrier task force the predominant naval weapon system of the 20th century while aboard Lexington in the western Pacific. Lexington participated in every major naval campaign from Tarawa to Tokyo and was hit twice by the enemy. Lexington was nicknamed "The Blue Ghost" by the Japanese propagandist Tokyo Rose because she never wore the typical camouflage paint of all the other U.S. aircraft carriers. After World War II, Lexington was modernized and recommissioned in 1955 for Cold War service in the western Pacific. In 1962, she was assigned to serve as the Navy's training aircraft carrier, a duty which she performed until her decommissioning on November 26, 1991. With a half century of service, Lexington holds the record for the longest service, the most aircraft launched and recovered of any of the world's aircraft carriers, and was first Navy ship to embark female crewmembers. USS Lexington offers Science- Aboard-Ship education programs for students and conducts youth overnight encampments. Musician39s friend lost but not forgotten http://riverstoneband.com/cgi-bin/blog/index.cgi?mode=viewone&blog=1148478494 Clifford Antone died yesterday of a heart attack at 56 yrs. old. The name may not mean much to many outside of Austin, but he owned a blues bar here that revived the careers of many an old blues legend, and provided great starts to young bands and pickers like the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Sue Foley, and ...oh, yeah...a kid named Stevie Ray Vaughan. Cliff loved the blues and had a truly encyclopedic knowledge of the genre. His last couple years, he's been teaching a Blues history course at the University. When he first opened his club in the early '80s, he contacted guys that couldn't get booked anywhere, anymore and invited them to come down. He'd put these guys up in nice hotels, feed them and turn them loose on stage. You could see Muddy Waters with Bobby Blue Bland for 5 nights straight! The list is too long to put out here, but the Anniversary shows at Antone's would last a week, and feature tons of artists. They'd frequently end up crowding the stage, jamming until the wee hours of the morning. Just legendary shows. They're starting the tribute shows tonight and I plan to be there with my son. Austin and the blues will miss this man greatly. RiverStone goes into the studio http://riverstoneband.com/cgi-bin/blog/index.cgi?mode=viewone&blog=1149542915 Many of you have been asking, "where have you guys been for the last few weeks?" Well, the truth is we have been very busy getting ready to go into the studio and cut our demo. We have finalized an agreement with Malford Milligan and his studio (Austin to Boston Recording Studio) to assist us in putting together a top quality sound track. We are very excited about this project and we will be back on the road as soon as we get everything finished. Hang in there.
